Toothpaste composition
Abstract
Abstract PURPOSE:To prepare a toothpaste composition having excellent shape-retainability and low stringiness, and giving agreeable feeling to the palate, by compounding a cationic polymer together with silica. CONSTITUTION:The objective toothpaste composition is obtained by compounding silica and 1/5-1/1,000pts.wt. (based on 1pt. of silica) of a cationic polymer (e.g. cationized cellulose, dimethyldiallylammonium chloride, etc.). The addition of the cationic polymer causes the flocculation and gives a highly thixotropic gel. Accordingly, the necessary amount of other binder can be reduced and the shape-retainability and the stability of the toothpaste composition can be improved without using a large amount of binders. In the case of using igneous silica as the binder, the characteristic astringent taste can be decreased according to the decrease in the content of the silica. A transparent toothpaste composition can be prepared when a silica-based abrasive is used as the silica and mixed with a transparent vehicle.
