Production of protoplast of bacterium of lactobacillus

Abstract

Abstract PURPOSE:To obtain a protoplast of a bacterium belonging to the genus in a short time in a high yield, by treating end-N-acetylmuramidase with a bacterium belong to the genus Lactobacillus in the presence of a dimer. CONSTITUTION:In a method wherein a protoplast of a bacterium belonging to the genus Lactobacillus is produced by treating end-N-acetylmuramidase prepared by Sterptomyces globisporus with the bacterium in the presence of a substance for adjusting osmotic pressure, a dimer is used as the substance for adjusting osmotic pressure. Sucrose, lactose, maltose, trehalose, etc. may be cited as the substance for adjusting osmotic pressure used. Lactobacillus casei, L. acidophilus, L. bulgaricus, L. lactice, L. heleveticus, etc. may be used as the bacterium belonging to the genus Lactobacillus.
