Abstract

Abstract PURPOSE:To simplify a valve operating mechanism and to improve the efficiency of the titled engine by performing accurate gas intake and discharge operations throughout the entire rotational region of the engine by a method wherein the gas intake and discharge valves are made rotatable. CONSTITUTION:Concave sections are provided in the circumferential surfaces of rotary shafts 5 and 6 to thereby form gas intake and exhaust rotary valves. Then the rotary shafts 5 and 6 are arranged on the gas intake and discharge sides of the cylinder head 12, respectively, and the concave sections are caused to run across gas intake and discharge ports 16 and 17 in a predetermined valve timing. As a consequence, the rotation of the crankshaft is transmitted as the rotations of the rotary shafts 5 and 6 so that the valve operating mechanism is simplified. Further, since the motions of the piston and the opening and closing of the valves are kept balanced in a favorable condition at all times, it is possible to perform the gas intake and discharge operations accurately and to improve the efficiency of the engine to a great degree.
