Abstract

Abstract PURPOSE:To obtain a printer capable of securing high-quality printing by using a system in which the gap between a head and a medium is detected at the same time as the head moves toward line and the printing gap is kept constant. CONSTITUTION:A mechanism 4 to move a carrier 10 and a head 1 in the vertical direction to the printing face is attached to a carrier 3 in such a way as to enable the carrier 3 to smoothly move in the line printing direction. A CCD image sensor 7 is also provided to the carrier 3, and the gap between the lower end (a) of the head 1 and the upper end (b) of the medium 13 is detected and kept constant all the time by vertically moving the head 1 through the mechanism 4 by a control circuit.
