Thin film type two-dimensional focusing device
Abstract
Abstract PURPOSE:To obtain a titled device which can stop down a two-dimensional optical beam and also can vary a focal position by providing a grating lens for varying a refractive index in accordance with applied voltage from an electrode, and a chirp type grating, on a waveguide. CONSTITUTION:A grating lens 3 constituted by vapor-depositing an upper layer 3a by a prescribed pattern by selective sputtering is formed on a thin film optical waveguide 2 formed on the surface of a substrate 1, and when a voltage is applied between electrodes 4, 4 of both side parts from a DC power source 5, light propagated in parallel to the directions as indicated with an arrow P on the thin film optical waveguide 2 is focused like an arrow Q in a plane of the waveguide 2. Also, a chirp type grating 6 is formed on its advancing direction side, and when a voltage is applied between electrodes 7, 7 of both sides from a DC power source 8, an optical beam which is made incident to the grating 6 is emitted in the diagonally upper direction as indicated with an arrow R, and is focused in a plane vertical to the plane of the waveguide 2.
