Abstract

Abstract PURPOSE:To realize the compact device and as a result facilitate the insurance of mounting space by a method wherein a steering torque is detected by a torque sensor and a motor is driven by being controlled in response to the output signal of the sensor in order to develop a torque. CONSTITUTION:A DC servo-motor DM is connected through a speed reducer 9 to a steering shaft 5. A torque sensor 8 is provided at a position nearer to a steering wheel 1 side than to the speed reducer 9 side. The sensor 8 consists in connecting strain gages in a bridge circuit in order to detect the steering torque in proportion to the operating amount of the steering wheel 1. The output torque of the motor DM is controlled based upon the steering torque signal of the sensor 8.
