Abstract

Abstract PURPOSE:To make up a fuel injection device being capable of electronic control, with which improvements in fuel consumption, exhaust emission control, drivability and so on are achieved, by combining a piezoelectric element-make electrostriction actuator capable of high-speed action and a needle valve together. CONSTITUTION:In time of stoppage, a needle valve 104 is forcibly pressed against a valve seat 107 by dint of a spring 113 whereby fuel is not sprayed any more. In time of driving, the needle valve 104 goes up as far as a portion for clearance by the setting pressure of a regulator valve 3 and thereby the fuel is sprayed out of an injector. At this time, when an electrostriction actuator 120 is energized with a continuous rating current, it elongages, for example, by 50mum in length, overcomes the hydraulic pressure, makes the needle valve 104 stick fast to the valve seat 107 and stops the fuel injection. On the other hand, a computer 200 opens or closes an injection nozzle in an optimum manner on the basis of various engine parameters. The quantity of fuel injection can be controlled in high accuracy because its opening or closing time is extremely short as compared with the valve-opening time of a nozzle 100.
