Preparation of hydroxyalkyl alkyl cellulose
Abstract
Abstract PURPOSE:To improve remarkably the etherification efficiency of an alkylene oxide, by reacting an alkali cellulose with the alkylene oxide and an alkyl halide in two stages under specific conditions. CONSTITUTION:(A) An alkali cellulose is etherified with (B) an alkylene oxide, preferably having a low reactivity such as propylene oxide, and (C) an alkyl halide in an amount of 50% or less based on the total amount of the alkyl halide necessary for the reaction preferably at 30-70 deg.C for 0.5-5hr. After completing the above-mentioned reaction, the residual component (C) is added to the reaction system to carry out the reaction preferably at 10-80 deg.C for 1-6hr and give the aimed hydroxyalkyl alkyl cellulose. EFFECT:The hydroxyalkyl alkyl cellulose having improved stable viscosity in an an aqueous solution against cellulase, etc. is obtained.
