Preparation of spiroortho ester
Abstract
Abstract PURPOSE:To obtain easily the titled compound useful as a molding material, etc., having a quick curing rate, high glass transition temperature of the cured compound, and extremely low shrinkage in volume during curing, by reacting a polyglycidyl ether of a phenolic resin with a lactone. CONSTITUTION:A polyglycidyl ether or poly (beta-methylglycidyl ether) of a phenolic resin is reacted with a lactone (e.g., gamma-butyrolactone, delta-valerolactone, epsilon-caprolactone, etc.), to give a spiroortho ester compound. In the reaction, preferably >=1mol, more preferably 1.2-5mol lactone is used based on 1 equivalent epoxy group of the epoxy resin, and the reaction is carried out in a solvent such as methylene chloride, carbon tetrachloride, etc. using Lewis acid such as BF3OEt2, SnCl4, etc.
