Abstract

Abstract PURPOSE:To adjust a continuous casting machine and a rolling mill so as to provide their full performance by providing plural units of temper heat retaining furnaces on the downstream of the flying shear of a continuous casting installation and subjecting extremely hot casting materials to soaking. CONSTITUTION:A casting material cast in a continuous casting device 6 is continuously cut with a cutter 7 and the cut materials are moved into an adequately controlled heat retaining furnace 10 by a traversing carriage 7 and are successively conveyed in a quick cooling chamber 11, a slow cooling chamber 12 and a heat retaining chamber 13. The temp. difference between the inside and the outside surface is eliminated and the casting materials are retained at uniform heat in the chamber 13 and are then kept to stand by. The casting materials accumulated in the furnace 3 are transferred successively to a traversing carriage 14, by which the materials are fed to a rolling mill 15 and are rolled. The length of the continuous casting installation is reduced by such mechanism and the consumption of heat energy is decreased.
