Abstract

Abstract PURPOSE:To prevent a supercharger from being damaged by a method wherein the case of an engine provided with the supercharger driven by the engine through an electromagnetic clutch, the electromagnetic clutch is turned OFF when the discharge pressure of the supercharger is lower than a value determined in correspondence to the number of revolutions of the engine. CONSTITUTION:When the opening degree of a throttle valve 12 reaches a regulated value as a result of treading on an acceleration pedal, a relay 27 is energized through a throttle sensor 26 to thereby hold the electromagnetic clutch 18 connected. As a result, a supercharger 16 is operated by an engine 1 but since, in this case, a supercharging pressure control valve 23 in a bypass pipe 22 is opened to the full, the load on the supercharger 16 is reduced. Further, when the acceleration pedal is treaded on, the control valve 23 is closed relative to the throttle valve 12 and sucked air is supplied under pressure to the engine 1. When the pressure detected by a pressure detector 29 becomes lower than a predetermined value during the operation of the supercharger, a computer 15 stops the operation of the supercharger 16 by disconnecting the electromagnetic clutch 18 and turns a solenoid 28 ON to open the control valve 23 so that the supercharger is protected.
