Abstract

Abstract PURPOSE:To improve the facsimile transmission and receiving speed, by selecting a data having the most excellent compressing rate among coded data by each coder and attaining the optimum coding at each unit block. CONSTITUTION:A picture signal stored in a line buffer 1 is read out, given to coders 2-1-2-m for encoding and stored in corresponding buffers 3-1-3-m and the data amount is counted at counters 4-1-4-m. A comparator 5 compares the data amount of each encoded data, the least count value is selected and given to a register 8 via a multiplexer 6. The output of the comparator 5 is also given to a discriminating code generating circuit 7, which discriminates a signal discriminating the coding system of the selected encoded data and this code is given to the register 8. Further, the signal selected from the register 8 is transmitted from an encoding data transmitting section 9 to a facsimile transmission section.
