Multicolor liquid crystal display element

Abstract

Abstract PURPOSE:To prevent the generation of moire stripes of color by arranging color filter layers in each display picture element with a proper irregularity. CONSTITUTION:Three-color, R, G, and B color filter layers in a display element are arranged irregularly to prevent the generation of moire stripes. That is, a dot arrangement consisting of three longitudinal dots and two lateral dots which is indicated by a long and short dash alternating line in Fig. is used as a repeat unit (picture element), and the same arrangement pattern is repeated. In this case, since three or more dots of the same color are not arranged in oblique directions though two dots of the same color are arranged in oblique directions, the unnatural impression of a display picture is relaxed, and further, the generation of moire stripes is suppressed effectively. Repeat units of arrangement patterns are arranged as shown by Fig.
