Abstract

Abstract PURPOSE:Ultrashort pulses of high voltage are applied between pairs of electrodes respectively to form streamer corona discharge and dry air or oxygen is passed through the discharge zone to form ozone, thus effecting great increase in power efficiency of the ozone generator. CONSTITUTION:A pair of electrodes is composed of the cylindrical electrode 2 and the wire corona discharge electrode 3 and the former 2 is grounded. Corona discharge electrodes 3, 3', 3'' are connected in series to form a long corona transmission line and ultrashort pulses of high voltage with a pulse width of several dozen microseconds, preferably less than 1,000 nonaseconds are applied from the power source 6 to between the electrode pair 1,1',1'' so that the electrodes 3, 3' and 3'' become negative. Then, dry air or oxygen is introduced from the gas inlet 17 into the box 4 to flow through electrodes 2, 2', 2'' to form ozone by the action of the negative streamer corona discharge and to feed the resultant ozone-containing gas from the gas outlet 18 to the outside.
