Production of porous diaphragm
Abstract
Abstract PURPOSE:To produce a porous diaphragm for separating gas by impregnating liquid aluminum alcoholate or aluminum chelate in a porous body having relatively large pores and subjecting the same to hydrolysis followed by hydrothermal treatment and calcination. CONSTITUTION:Aluminum alcoholate, such as aluminum isopropylate, or an aluminum chelate compd., such as aluminum tris (ethyl acetoacetate), is impregnated in a molten state, in a porous body, such as foamed silica, sintered silica, cordierite, mullite or the like, having relatively large pores and an optional shape. The aluminum alcoholate or aluminum chelate compd. is hydrolyzed to boehmite sol by immersing said body into water or the like and after the body is subjected to a hydrothermal treatment in autoclave then to calcination to form alumina. Said body is made usable as a porous membrane that can separate and concentrate gas with good efficiency.
