Abstract

Abstract PURPOSE:To read marks of a simple construction and different types and those of madia of different formats, by additionally providing a means for detecting the characteristics of the media to a carrier. CONSTITUTION:A reflection type sensor 3 is mounted near the tip of a print head 2' fitted to a carrier 1. When a bankbook 10 is inserted from an insertion slit 12 and reaches the position of a sensor 3, a feed screw 6 rotates and the sensor 3 is carried with the carrier 1 and when a page mark 7 reaches a point (a) of a page mark 7. Then, the page mark 7 is read by carrying the bankbook 10 toward the row direction. Thus, a plurality of marks on the bankbook can be read by moving one sensor 3 orthogonal to the carrying direction of the bankbook 10.
