Abstract

Abstract PURPOSE:To make the compression ratio of the engine variable by a method wherein two independent paths are formed in a connecting rod and a lock pin is attached to or removed from an eccentric bearing. CONSTITUTION:Respectively independent two sets of oil grooves 22, 23, 25, 26 are provided on the journal bearing 10 of a crank shaft and the crank pin bearing 6 of the connecting rod 5 while they are communicated with the oil path 24 in the crank shaft. A switching valve 38 is operated in accordance with an operating condition and flows oil into main paths 20, 21 for the low compression ratio or the high compression ratio. For the switching, the lock pin 12 is moved up-and-down to fix or remove the eccentric bearing 11. Thus, the compression ratio may be changed most properly.
