Abstract

Abstract PURPOSE:To obtain a resin composition for optical fiber coating, capable of high-speed coating, also with outstanding toughness and economical advantage, comprising as an essential component, a specific amount of an alicyclic epoxy resin having epoxy group(s) on the alicyclic ring(s). CONSTITUTION:The objective composition, a cationic-polymerizable, energy beam-curable resin composition containing a compound (photopolymerization initiator) capable of releasing an active catalyst triggering the polymerization by an energy beam irradiation (pref. ultraviolet), comprising, as an essential component, 20-95wt% of an alicyclic epoxy resin having epoxy group(s) on the alicyclic ring(s). The epoxy equivalent of said epoxy resin falls preferably in a range 70-250, and it is recommendable to use an epoxy resin of formulaI, II or III.
