Abstract

Abstract PURPOSE:To permit continuous casting of thin sheets of a specified width easily with small burden of rolling rolls by disposing a mold of a special shape above said rolls, and rolling the initial solidified shell formed of said mold with the rolls. CONSTITUTION:The molten steel 5 charged into a mold 3 through a tundish 1 and an immersion nozzle 2 is allowed to form a solidified shell 6. Since the sectional shape of the mold 3 changes from a section A-A to a section B-B as it goes downward, the ingot enclosed by the shell 6 is crushed gradually thinly. The ingot emerged from the mold 3 in such a way is press stuck with rolling rolls 4, and is directly rolled down to a prescribed plate thickness, whereby a thin sheet 7 having small thickness as compared with the width is produced.
