Abstract

Abstract PURPOSE:To make it possible to measure rapidly and simply by directly immersing an electrode in a liquid to be tested by providing a group of electrodes for measuring a target substance and another group of obstructing substance removal electrodes for treating electro-chemically substances that are obstructing the measurement of a target substance. CONSTITUTION:Reference electrodes 14 and 17 of a group of removal electrodes and a group of measurement electrodes are respectively placed in the electrolytic solution holding chambers in an electrode case 24. An opposing electrode 18 of the group of removal electrodes is outside the holding chamber. Both groups of electrodes are incorporated in one electrode. With this construction it is possible to measure the concentration of a target substance by repeatedly immersing the electrode into the solution to be measured after the residual electric current value has reached a certain value by applying at first potential to both groups of electrodes, and it is also possible to remove sufficiently obstructing substances. Therefore, the electrode of this invention is capable of measuring quickly and simply the concentration by immersing it directly into a liquid to be tested.
