4-(trans-4'-alkylcyclohexyl)-chlorobenzene
Abstract
Abstract NEW MATERIAL:A compound shown by the formulaI[R is 1-8C alkyl; a group shown by the formula II is trans-1,4-substituted cyclohexane ring). EXAMPLE:4-(Trans-4'-propylcyclohexyl)-chlorobenzene. USE:One component of a liquid crystal material useful as a liquid crystal display element. Having positive dielectric anisotropy, extremely low viscosity, the titled compound can show quick response when it is used a liquid crystal display element. Since it dissolves two-color dye well, useful as a base liquid crystal material in gest-host mode. PROCESS:A compound shown by the formula III (R' is alkyl having one fewer carbon atom than R) is racted with a compound shown by the formula IV and a compound shown by the formula V in the presence of a Friedel-Crafts catalyst such as anhydrous aluminum chloride at -50-100 deg.C to give a compound shown by the formula VI, which is subjected to Wolff-Kischner reduction or Clemensen reduction, to give a compound shown by the formulaI.
