Toner

Abstract

Abstract PURPOSE:To obtain a toner for developing an electrostatic or magnetic latent image, improved in dispersion of a pigment, by suspension-polymerizing a monomer containing a dispersed pigment treated with a titanium coupler. CONSTITUTION:A pigment, such as carbon black, treated with a titanium coupler, such as isopropyl tristearoyltitanate is dispersed into a monomer, such as styrene. A polymerization initiator is added to this monomer, this mixture is added to a medium, such as water, and agitated to produce a reaction product by suspension polymerization. The toner obtained by drying this product contains the uniformly dispersed pigment, but an isolated form of its exits very little. Use of this toner as a developer enables a fog-free sharp image to be formed.
