Construction of front pillar section
Abstract
Abstract PURPOSE:To reduce the sectional area of a front pillar with the required rigidity kept intact, by securing a pillar cover made up in a required outer surface form the outer surface of an outer panel or inner panel of the front pillar. CONSTITUTION:A front pillar A is formed in a closed sectional construction by means of spot welding between both end flanges of an outer panel 1A and an inner panel 2 A which are made up of high-tension steel plate or soft steel plate each. And, at the corresponding position of a front glass 3, a pillar cover 6 being formed in a U-shaped section in order to set a weather strip 5 is installed. That is to say, this pillar cover 6 is purposely fabricated as a member suitable in form to that of the setting part of the weather strip 5 and to that of the car body's outer surface, and the one end flange 6a is spot-welded in advance to a corresponding flange of the outer panel 1A while the other end flange 6b to the outer side of said outer panel 1A being hidden by a drip channel 7, respectively, so that a closed section is formed in this way.
