Preparation of hydrolyzable polyester resin

Abstract

Abstract PURPOSE:To obtain the titled novel resin useful as a coating resin vehicle, by condensing a polyhydric alcohol consisting of a metallic salt (and a polyol) of a hydroxycarboxylic acid with a polybasic acid under heating at a specific temperature. CONSTITUTION:(A) A polybasic acid, e.g. oxalic acid is condensed with (B) a polyhydric alcohol consisting of a metallic salt, e.g. copper 12-hydroxystearate, of a hydroxycarboxylic acid expressed by formulaI{R is formula II[R1 and R2 are H, 1-10C alkyl, etc.; (m) and (n) are 0 or integers 1-16], formula III (R3 is 1-8C alkylene, etc.); M is mono- - tetravalent metallic element, e.g. GroupsIa,Ib, IIa, etc.; (l) is an integer corresponding to the valence of M}and a polyol, e.g. ethylene glycol under heating at a temperature of the decomposition temperature of the metallic salt in the component (B) or below to give the aimed resin.
