Determination of life for non-linear resistor
Abstract
Abstract PURPOSE:To achieve determination of propriety in the life characteristics and estimation of the life of a non-linear resistor mainly composed of ZnO quickly in an accurate and non-destructive manner with a simple equipment. CONSTITUTION:When measuring TSC, the temperature of a sample 2 is raised to Tb by combining the heating of a copper plate 1 with a heater 5 and the cooling of the copper plate 1 with the passage of a refrigerant through a copper pipe 4. With a changeover switch 8 connected to a contact 8a, a voltage Vb is applied to the sample 2 through the copper plate 1 keeping the temperature at Tb for a time tb and then, the temperature is brought down to a level sufficiently lower than Tb. Here, with the changeover switch 8 turned to a contact 8b, the sample 2 is short-circuited between both ends thereof through a microammeter 9. As the temperature is raised at a fixed rate, current flows through the microammeter 9, namely, the sample 2. When the current is represented by TSC, Tm is the temperature when the TSC is at its maximum. The time integral value QSTC of OSC as obtained indicates a correlationship with the life characteristics of a ZnO element. The longer the life thereof, the smaller the value QTSC/cm<2>.
