Abstract

Abstract PURPOSE:To simplify the determination of a broken part in a device for automatically starting and stopping an engine in an urban district or the like, by issuing a warning by the flashing and sounding of a display element corresponding to each sensor for detecting operating conditions upon failure of such a sensor. CONSTITUTION:An engine automatic start and stop unit issues a signal from a control circuit 1 to a fuel cut-off relay 40 so that an engine 20 is automatically stopped when conditions are established such that engine speed is below a predetermined value, a clutch pedal is released and no turning-right signal is delivered, and also drives a starter 42 so that the engine 20 is automatically started when these predetermined conditions are established. In this case, when a trouble diagnosis mode setting switch S1 is turned on, the control circuit 1 performs the trouble diagnosis of respective sensors 12, 22, 24... in accordance with a trouble diagnosis program, and issues a signal, when any of the sensors is broken, to a trouble indicating part 46. A lamp L1 and a buzzer BZ are operated with a predetermined pattern corresponding to the broken sensor so that the broken part is indicated.
