High-density optical cable unit
Abstract
Abstract PURPOSE:To decrease the increase in transmission loss and to permit high density containing of optical fibers by contg. plural pieces of optical fiber strands produced by cladding primary coating or buffer coating on optical fibers in a pipe at specific occupying rates without twisting the strands. CONSTITUTION:An optical cable unit1 is of the constitution wherein plural pieces of optical fiber strands 3 are contained in a straight state without twisting in a pipe 2 of plastics or metal. Thin primary coating of a silicone resin or the like is applied on the respective strands 3, and if necessary buffer coating having elasticity is provided on the outside thereof. If the occupying rate E of the optical fiber strands in the pipe 2, expressed by the equation (I), is so set as to attain 10-17%, the optical cable unit having the highest density and less transmission loss is constituted.
