Head gasket for internal-combustion engine
Abstract
Abstract PURPOSE:To reduce a top clearance and also reduce a dead volume down to the smallest possible extent, by installing a spacer which is forcibly pressed and deformed between the top of a piston and the bottom of a cylinder head while reduces the width of this clearance. CONSTITUTION:A head gasket G is one that a spacer 11 composed of a metal plate is laminated on the topside of a gasket body 10 and designed so as to forcibly press each of projecting parts 16 made up in the spacer 11 at the top of a piston 4 installed in a cylinder 1 as being free of its reciprocating motion inside. With a crank rotated slightly after assembling an internal-combustion engine, each of these projecting parts 16 in the spacer 11 is forcibly pressed at the space between the top of the piston 4 and a cylinder head 3 and then these projecting parts 16 are deformed in accord with the top of the piston 4. Afterward, when the engine is started, carbon particles C in combustion gas are forcibly pressed by the piston 4, the stick to a space between these projecting parts and charged while solidified by dint of heat and pressure.
