Abstract

Abstract PURPOSE:To obtain stable picture quality while holding the charged potential of a photoreceptor constant with high precision, by irradiating part of the photoreceptor with light according to some function and thus obtaining periodic variation in charged potential, and then feeding it back to a charging part high- voltage power source. CONSTITUTION:Between a corotron 2 and an exposure part 3, a detection part 6 is interposed in opposition to an edge part of a photosensitive drum 1 which is not used for image formation. The detection part 6 includes a surface light emission type diode 7, a transparent insulator 8 provided on its light emission surface, and a transparent electrode 9 covering said insulator 8. The electrode 9 has a prescribed gap with the surface of the drum 1, and a lead wire 10 is led out from one end part of the electrode 9 and connected to the input part of an amplifier 11, whose output is fed back to a high-voltage power source 5 through a control part 12. The diode 7 turns on periodically by a pulse current from an oscillator 13 and the charged potential of the photodetection part 14 of the drum 1 attenuates, so that the potential of the electrode 9 varies.
