Production of polyphenylene sulfide fiber

Abstract

Abstract PURPOSE:Polyphenylene sulfide, mainly consisting of p-phenylene sulfide as the major unit, is, without precuring, subjected to melt spinning and drawn under specific temperature conditions to produce the titled fiber of high strength stably without formation of irregular fiber. CONSTITUTION:Polyphenylene sulfide containing more than 90% of p-phenylene sulfide as the structural unit is, without precuring, subjected to melt spinning, then drawing is conducted in the proper zone of the temperature satisfying the equation where T is the temperature of drawing; X is the melt flow of the polymer in g/10min measured in accordance with ASTM-D-1238-70 at 243 deg.C under the load of 5kg outside the zone B where uneven fiber is formed B and another zone C where the strength is lowered.
