Liquid crystal display element
Abstract
Abstract PURPOSE:To obtain the titled element having a superior contrast and maintaining the transparency without causing coloring in yellowish brown even if the ring closure of a polymer by heating is carried out. CONSTITUTION:A liq. crystal orienting film is made of polyimide having repeating units represented by general formulaI(where R1 is a group represented by formula II or III, n is 0 or 1, R2 is an org. residue of tetracarboxylic acid, and R3 is a bonding radical or a bivalent group). Diamine corresponding to said general formula includes 1,3-bisaminomethylcyclohexane, 1,4-bisaminomethylcyclohexane and 1,4-diaminocyclohexane. By substituting a siloxane group represented by formula IV (where R2 is a bivalent org. group, R3 is a univalent hydrocarbon group and n is an integer of >=1) for a part of a diphenylsulfone group which is each diamine residue of polyimide, the transparency is enhanced, and the exfoliation and blurring of the orienting film can be avoided.
