Filter for purification of exhaust gas of internal combustion engine and its production
Abstract
Abstract PURPOSE:To provide a filter for purification of an exhaust gas which has high strength and a catalytic effect and burns the fine particles in the exhaust gas of an internal combustion engine at low temp., by consisting the same of ceramic bodies of three-dimensional net structure having low expansive three- dimensional compds. constituted of lithia, silica and alumina on the surfaces and/or inside thereof. CONSTITUTION:Lithium silicate is impregnated in ceramic bodies consisting of, for example, cordierite ceramics of three-dimensional network structure. The lithium silicate is prepd. by dissolving, for example, lithia (LiO2) and silica (SiO2) at a suitable mixing ratio into an alkaline soln. The above-mentioned ceramic bodies subjected to the impregnation treatment are calcined at about 700-1,300 deg.C, whereby the above-mentioned filter for exhaust gases of internal combustion engines is obtained. Ordinary ceramic bodies in the form of foam, honeycomb structure, etc. are usable for the above-described ceramic bodies of the three-dimensional network structure.
