Crosslinking of polyolefin
Abstract
Abstract PURPOSE:To crosslink a polyolefin without heating it, by irradiating a composition consisting of a polyolefin, an organic peroxide and a specific organosilicon compound with ultraviolet rays, bringing it into contact with water in the presence of a silanol condensation catalyst. CONSTITUTION:For example, a composition consisting of 100pts.wt. polyolefin (e.g., polyethylene, etc.), 0.01-2pts.wt., preferably 0.05-0.3pts.wt. organic peroxide (e.g., dicumyl peroxide, etc.), 0.05-6pts.wt., preferably 1.0-3pts.wt. organosilicon compound containing one or more vinyl groups directly linked to Si atom in the molecular chain and 0.01-2.0pts.wt., preferably 0.02-0.5pts.wt. silanol condensation catalyst (e.g., dibutyltin dilaurate, etc.) is kneaded and made into the desired from. It is then irradiated with ultravilet rays with wave length of 200-400nm by a high-pressure ultraviolet lamp.
