Crosslinking of polyolefin
Abstract
Abstract PURPOSE:To crosslink a polyolefin without heating it, by irradiating a composition consisting of polyolefin, a photosensitizer, and an organosilicon compound with ultraviolet rays, bringing it into contact with water in the presence of a silanol condensation catalyst. CONSTITUTION:For example a composition consisting of 100pts.wt. polyolefin (e.g., polyethylene, etc.), 0.05-10pts.wt., preferably 0.1-5pts.wt. photosensitizer (e.g., benzophenone, etc.), 0.05-6pts.wt., preferably 1.0-3pts.wt. organosilicon compound containing one or more vinyl groups directly linked to Si atom in the molecular chain and 0.01-2.0pts.wt., preferably 0.02-0.5pts.wt. silanol condensation catalyst (e.g., dibutyltin dilaurate, etc.) is kneaded, formed into the desired state, and it is irradiated with ultraviolet rays with wave length of 200-400nm by a high-pressure ultraviolet lamp.
