Coated cutting tool
Abstract
Abstract PURPOSE:To provide a cutting tool with which considerable reduction of chipping abrasion of ridgelines is made possible by vapor depositing coatings of carbides, nitrides, oxides, etc. on ultra-high V (Nb or Ti) high Co type high speed tool steel of specific compsn. produced by a powder metallurgical method. CONSTITUTION:In a cutting tool, one or >=2 optional dissimilar layers of carbides, nitrides or carbonitrides of metals of groups IVa, Va or VIa or periodic law table or alumina are vapor deposited on the surfaces of cutting tools of the powder high speed steel consisting of 1.80-3.30wt% C, 0.10-0.60% Si, 0.10- 0.60% Mn, 3.0-5.0% Mo, 7.0-11.0% W, 3.5-5.0% Cr, 7.0-10.0% Co, 0.005- 0.3% N, 8.0-11.0% >=1 kind among V, Nb, Ti and the balance Fe and impurities and produced by a powder metallurgical method, whereby the crater abrasion on the rake surfaces or the abrasion of relief surfaces where the coating layers are removed after regrinding of the cutting tools is decreased and the chipping abrasion of ridgelines is eliminated.
