Production of magnetic tape

Abstract

Abstract PURPOSE:To improve the smoothness of the surface of a magnetic tape by setting up a press roller around which a tape coated with fine grain abrasives is wound to the magnetic tape travelling between reels to finish by grinding while travelling the tape. CONSTITUTION:The magnetic tape 2 is travelled from a supply reel 21 to a take-up reel 24 through rollers 22, 23 and a grinding tape 25 which is set up throgh a roller 26, a press roller 27 and a roller 28 with tension and obtained by adhering diamond powder or the like having about 1mum average grain size on its surface is pressed to the surface of the travelling magnetic tape 2 while making it travel at a speed several times or several ten times of the travelling speed of a magnetic tape to finish the surface of the magnetic film of the magnetic tape by grinding while travelling the magnetic tape.
