Reinforced ribbon optical fiber
Abstract
Abstract PURPOSE:To increase strength not only in a lengthwise direction, but also in its perpendicular direction, by adding tensile-force fiber to an optical fiber wire longitudinally and by winding it so that the wire crosses the fiber. CONSTITUTION:To an optical fiber wire 1 covered with a primary coat 2, long- sized tensile-force fiber 3 is added longitudinally. Then, this fiber is impregnated with thermosetting resin to form a layer 4 covering each optical fiber wire 1 in one body. Lastly, long-sized tensile-force fiber 5 is wound crossing each optical fiber wire 1 preferably at right angles. Consequently, the mechanical strength is increased not only in the lengthwise direction of the optical fiber wires, but also in the crossing direction, and bending strength is also increased specially.
