Manufacdure of manganese-dioxide positive electrode for lithium battery
Abstract
Abstract PURPOSE:To obtain manganese dioxide for a lithium battery, which is conaminated by small amount of Mn2O3 and is favorable as an active material, by adding nitric acid and a nitrate or a carbonate to manganese nitrate, before the mixture is subjected to thermal decomposition. CONSTITUTION:Manganese dioxide, which is used as a positive active material for a battery containing a negative electrode made of lithium, is manufactured by subjecting manganese nitrate to thermal decomposition. Here, manganese nitrate is added with nitric acid and a nitrate or/and a carbonate, before it undergoes thermal decomposition. As the former nitrate, ammonium nitrate is used; while, as the former carbonate, ammonium hydrogencarbonate or ammonium carbonate is used. Increasing the amount of the former additive causes the increase of the surface area of produced manganese dioxide. The grain size of produced manganese dioxide can be regulated by adjusting the amount of the former additive.
