Abstract

Abstract PURPOSE:To manufacture ER-POM charcterized by a low cost and high reliability, by forming a cap which is attached and sealed to a package by a material which is transparent to ultraviolet rays or visible light so as to form an integrated body. CONSTITUTION:A pellet 14 is attached in a recessed part in the ceramic package 10 and an electrode part and a lead frame are connected by a piece of wire 18. A cap 22 is attached to the sealing surface of the upper outside of the package 10 via low melting point glass 20. The entire body of said cap 22 is formed by a transparent material so as to form an integrated body. If the device is to be used as the EP-ROM and the memory is to be erased, the ultraviolet ray is irradiated through the transparent cap. As the material for the cap, transparent alumina, ultraviolet ray transmitting glass, and transparent plastics are used. In this constitution, a lid attaching part is eliminated, mechanical strength is increased, reliability is improved, and the cost is decreased.
