Liquid crystal composition

Abstract

Abstract PURPOSE: To prepare a liquid crystal composition which can be driven over a wide temperature range by two-frequency driving with high rate of response, by using a mixture of several kinds of specific ester compounds as active component. CONSTITUTION: The objective composition is prepared by compounding, at a proper ratios, at least one of the following compounds (A) to (D) or their mixture: (A) a compound of formula (R and R' are 1W8C straight-chain alkyl), (B) a liquid crystal compound having terminal cyano group and having a large positive dielectric anisotropy (Δε), (C) a liquid crystal compound having a large negative dielectric anisotropy (i.e. large |Δε|) or a rodlike nonliquid-crystal compound, and (D) a liquid crystal compound or their mixture which satisfies at least two of the following conditions [conditions; (a) low fc, (b) small temperature dependency of fc, (c) low viscosity, and (d) wide liquid crystal temperature range and low melting point].
