Molding of cellulose derivative liquid crystal
Abstract
Abstract PURPOSE: To obtain a highly strong fiber film of high modulus of elasticity, by injecting a liquid crystal consisting of a cellulose deriv. and an inorg. acid into air and then introducing it into a coagulating soln. in which it is solidified. CONSTITUTION: At least one cellulose deriv. such as methylcellulose, cyanoethyl cellulose or carboxymethylcellulose is mixed with at least one aqueous soln. of an inorg. acid such as nitric, hydrochloric or hypochlorous acid to prepare a liquid crystal pref. contg. about 25wt% or more cellulose deriv. in the solvent and having a viscosity ≥ about 1,000P at 20°C. The purpose fiber or film is prepd. by injecting the liquid crystal into air by a screw extruder and intorducing the injected liquid crystal stream into a coagulating solution consisting of water, an acid, alkali, alcohol, acetone, etc., in which it is solidified.
