Abstract

Abstract PURPOSE:To maintain a satisfactory connection state, by filling the circumferential air gap part of an optical fiber strand and an optical fiber connecting element, with solder. CONSTITUTION:The circumferential air gap part of an optical fiber connecting element 2 and an optical fiber strand 1 is filled with solder 5, and the connection is executed by butting and fixing the end of the fiber connecting element 2 to the connector of the opposite side. The coefficient of thermal expansion of solder is smaller than that of a conventional adhesive agent, and the time aging is small, therefore, a satisfactory connection effect can be maintained extending over a long period of time. Solder is made to flow into the space between the optical fiber strand 1 and the connecting element 2 by means of heating and melting, but when a metallic vapor deposition is executed on the surface of the strand in advance, further solid connecting strength is obtained.
