Production of thermoplastic resin
Abstract
Abstract PURPOSE: To obtain a thermoplastic resin having improved heat resistance and processability, by reacting a copolymer containing an aromatic vinyl monomer and maleic anhydride with ammonia or prim. amine in the presence of a tert. amine. CONSTITUTION: A copolymer containing 50W80wt% aromatic vinyl monomer, 5W 40wt% maleic anhydride and vinyl monomer copolymerizable therewith and having a reduced viscosity η sp /c >0.3 (measured in a solution of 1.0g polymer in 100cc methyl ethyl ketone at 30°C) is reacted with ammonia or a prim. amine at 80W 350°C in the presence of a tert. amine to convert at least 90mol% of the anhydrido groups into imido groups. The imidization of the maleic anhydride copolymer is carried out in bulk, solution or nonaqueous suspension. COPYRIGHT: (C)1982,JPO&Japio
