Abstract

Abstract PURPOSE: To print characters on a plural kind of recording paper without damaging a printing ribbon and the recording paper by sliding a printing head in the direction which separates from platens, turning it and moving it toward the platen selected. CONSTITUTION: The printing head 21 is locked so as to oppose to the platen 28 or 29 selected by means of positioning connecting sections 42, 43 mounted to a carrier frame 19, the printing head 21 is slid in the direction which separates from the platen 28 or 29 by means of a driver 34, and the printing head 21 is rotated and opposed to the optional platen 28 or 29. The printing head 21 is maintained under a condition which is separated from the platen 28 or 29 by means of a guide section 41 formed to the carrier frame 1 during this rotatory operation, the rotary operation of the head supporter 19 is completed at the positioning connecting sections 42, 43, the printing head 21 is slid in the direction which approaches to the platen 28 or 29, and the printing head 21 is opposed to the platen 28 or 29 selected and characters are printed.
