Preparation of 3,5-dichloro-2,6-dimethyl-4-pyridinol
Abstract
Abstract PURPOSE: To obtain the titled compound in high purity and yield, by chlorinating 2,6-dimethyl-4-pyridinol in an acidic or alkaline aqueous medium, removing an impurity with an organic solvent under alkaline conditions, and neutralizing the aqueous layer. CONSTITUTION: 2,6-Dimethyl-4-pyridinol is chlorinated with chlorine in an acidic or alkaline aqueous medium, (preferably under acidic conditions with hydrochloric acid, etc.) and the resultant reaction solution is then extracted with an organic solvent incompatible with water, e.g. toluene or benzene, in a uniform aqueous solution under alkaline conditions to transfer 4-amino-3,5-dichloro-2,6-dimethylpyridine which is an impurity to the organic solvent layer and leave the aimed substance in the aqueous layer. The resultant aqueous layer is then neutralized to deposit, separate and obtain the aimed substance. The organic solvent can be recycled for use. USE: A preventing agent and remedy for coccidiosis of a domestic fowl and a feed additive. COPYRIGHT: (C)1982,JPO&Japio
