Abstract

Abstract PURPOSE:To measure viscosity simply and continuously, by applying a given pressure higher than the sample liquid pressure to a piston by using a pressure-reducing valve with pilot pressure, and making the sample liquid flow through a capillary tube at a differential pressure of a constant value. CONSTITUTION:In the outer tube 1 which is a horizontal hollow cylindrical body provided with a liquid inlet and outlet 11 and 12, the inner tube 2 which is provided with a check valve 17, a capillary tube 3 and the like and in which a piston 4 reciprocates, is provided with a space 9 having a torus-shaped section therebetween. Then, the pressure in the space 9 through a pilot tube 14 of the outer tube 1 is regulated by a pressure-reducing valve 5 with pilot pressure so that said pressure has a given difference between that in a reduced-air supply tube 15 connected to a three- way valve 6. Accordingly, if the leftward moving speed and stroke of the piston 4 are set to be given values, the differential pressure P between those of the sample liquid flowing through the capillary tube 3 at both ends thereof becomes a given constant value. On the other hand, the flow rate q is determined from the moving amount of the piston 4 through proximity switches 21A and 21B and a magnet 19. Thereby, the absolute viscosity according to the equation I is measured simply and continuously. In the equation I, r and l are the radius and the length of the capillary tube respectively.
