Production of alkenylsuccinic anhydride
Abstract
Abstract PURPOSE: The addition reaction between a 2W30C olefin and maleic anhydride is conducted under heating in the presence of aluminum to prohibit the formation of high-molecular by-products, reduce colored by-products and obtain the titled compound used as an additive for lubricants. CONSTITUTION: When an addition reaction between a 2W30C olefin, preferably diisobutylene, triisobutylene or their mixture, and maleic anhydride is effected by heating to produce an alkenylsuccinic anhydride, e.g., diisobutenylsuccinic anhydride, aluminum is added to the reaction system. The amount of the aluminum is 0.01W5.0wt%, preferably 0.1W2wt% based on the total amount of the olefin and the maleic anhydride. USE: Additive for fuel, coating dispersant, plasticizer and intermediate of other chemicals, epoxy resin curing agent, alkyd resin modifier, anticorrosive, grease, color developer for printing ink.
