Abstract

Abstract PURPOSE:To shorten preheating time largely while also suppressing the maximum temperature to low value, and to improve durability by a method wherein the changes of the power of heting elements are made octuple or more and the ratio of the length of the elements three point two or more, and resistor elements are arranged so that 50- 75% among the length of said resistor elements are positioned in a fixture. CONSTITUTION:In the preheat current controlling type glow plug in which the heating elements 2 having a small resistance temperature coefficient at the nose secton side in a metallic tube 1 projecting into a combustion chamber and housed in the fixture 6 and the resistance elements 3 having an extremely large positive resistance temperature temperature coefficient are connected in series and buried in an electric insulating material, the changes of the power (power at the time of rise/ power at the time of stability) of the heating elements 2 are made octuple or more and the ratio of the length (the effective length of the resistor elements/the effective length of the heating elements) of the elements 2 three point two or more, and the resistance elements 3 are disposed so that 50-75% among the length of the elements are positoned in the fixture 6.
