Abstract

Abstract PURPOSE:To reduce power consumption and to realize small-sized, lightweight constitution by balancing the constant of the gamma correction of the whole of a television camera system by performing the gamma correction of an image singal obtained from an image pickup element in conformity with the characteristics of liquid crystal directly. CONSTITUTION:An image pickup element 602 has a gamma constant gamma1 and a luminance signal from it is inputted to an encoder 608 through a gamma correcting circuit 605 having a gamma constant gamma2 for conformity with the gamma characteristics of a cathode-ray tube. A gamma correcting circuit 61 is connected in parallel to the gamma correcting circuit 605. This gamma correcting circuit 613 corrects the luminance signal from the image pickup element 602 with a gamma constant gamma3 for conformity with the gamma characteristics of liquid crystal. A liquid-crystal display body 615 is driven by the output signal of this gamma correcting circuit 613. In this case, gamma1Xgamma2Xgamma4=1 and gamma1Xgamma3Xgamma5=1, where gamma4 is the gamma constant of the cathode-ray tube and gamma5 is that of the liquid-crystal display body 615.
