Abstract

Abstract PURPOSE:To obtain a magnetic recording medium superior in magnetic conversion characteristics and etc., by making up a binder from a hemiadide compound or its salt of the copolymer between unsaturated hydrocarbon and maleic anhydride and one or more kinds of resin such as cellulose resin and a specific vinyl chloride-vinyl acetate copolymer. CONSTITUTION:0.5-10wt% half amide compound having 1,000-100,000 molecular weight indicated by formula (R1 is H or alkyl, and R2 is H, alkyl, alkenyl, alkoxy, phenyl, or benzyl, and R3 is H, alkyl, or alkenyl, and M is H, NH4, a metal giving a metallic salt soluble in an organic solvent, or organic amine residue, and (n) is an integer) or its salt is added to 100pts.wt. magnetic metallic powder together with resin such as cellulose resin, vinyl chloride-vinyl acetate copolymer having COOH or OH, and a vinyl chloride-vinylidene chloride copolymer to make up a binder. Thus, the magnetic coating material is prevented from thickening and gelling, and a magnetic tape superior in electromagnetic conversion characteristics and surface smoothness is obtained.
